The portfolio emission mandate is to generate no more carbon per unit of energy than what most progressive countries target for their overall emissions mix by 2050 under the auspices of the Kyoto Protocol.
Low and zero emission assets which the company is currently focused on include;
• Run of river hydro electricity
• Wind generated electricity
• Natural gas primarily for production for electricity and;
• Coal bed methane (CBM) primarily for production for electricity
On average the electricity produced from Natural Gas emits only 30-50% of the greenhouse gases emitted by coal fuel to produce the same unit quantity of electricity.
